History

The Fox Valley Folklore Society is an all volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation & promotion of the Folklife arts (primarily Folk Music, Folk Dance and Storytelling).  Founded in Aurora, IL in January of 1975 (the Fox River Valley area just West of Chicago) we have maintained a schedule of about 100 Folklife events annually since then.  These include informal weekly Folk Music “Sing Arounds” (song & tune circles), a schedule of 16 “Old-Time Community Barn Dances” (held in a 100+ year old barn), monthly “Storytelling Guild” meetings,  6 to 10 concerts annually by touring Folk Musicians, and our Annual “Fox Valley Folk Music & Storytelling Festival” that began in 1977 and is now Illinois’ Largest Folk Fest.  We also do extensive consulting with area Arts Centers & venues on selection & promotion of Folk Artists and with individuals & special events to connect them to Folk Artists to meet their needs.
